White House approved spying on allies, claim US officials

Was the White House aware of the NSA surveillance on US allies, or was it left in the dark? That question has reared its head following admissions from Washington that the NSA tapped into the phone calls of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other foreign leaders. The White House and State Department did approve the phone taps, current and former U.S. intelligence officials said, according to the Los Angeles Times. These officials also say that members of the National Security Agency and other US intelligence agencies are now upset that President Obama appears to be distancing himself from the revelations. The process works as follows, according to two former senior intelligence officials cited by the LA Times: When the US ... Read More »

Adobe hack attack affected 38 million accounts

A cyberattack launched against Adobe affected more than 10 times the number of users initially estimated. On October 3, Adobe revealed that it had been the victim of an attack that exposed Adobe customer IDs and encrypted passwords. At the time, the company said that hackers gained access to credit card records and login information for around 3 million users. But the number of affected accounts has turned out to be much higher. The attack actually involved 38 million active accounts, according to security blog Krebs on Security. Adobe confirmed that number in an e-mail to Krebs. “So far, our investigation has confirmed that the attackers obtained access to Adobe IDs and (what were at the time valid), encrypted passwords ... Does Cher have the ballroom cred to judge ‘Dancing With the Stars’?

21 minutes ago Cher’s an Oscar, Golden Globe, Emmy and Grammy winner (not to mention “a scamp, a camp and a bit of a tramp”), but despite the fact that she’s set to serve as a guest judge on “Dancing With the Stars” next week, she’s no ballroom expert. So, is she really qualified to stand in while head judge Len Goodman sits out another week? The dance pros and celebrities who’ll be performing for her think so. “I think she’ll judge character, flair, and performance skills,” pro Peta Murgatroyd told TODAY. “She’ll look at the performance and at the celebrity. It’s great that she’s coming here.” “We’re thrilled to have her,” added Brant Daugherty, ... Read More »

Katy Perry to ‘naked’ female pop stars: ‘Put it away’

Celebs 1 hour ago Naked pop stars, hear Katy Perry roar: In a recent interview with NPR’s “Weekend Edition,” the Grammy-nominated singer protested the ongoing nudity present among women in music these days, and said it was time to “put it away.” “I do see myself becoming this, whatever, inspiration out of default right now, ’cause it’s such a strange world,” she told Scott Simon during an Oct. 26 chat to promote her new album, “Prism.” “Like females in pop — everybody’s getting naked. I mean, I’ve been naked but I don’t feel like I always have to get naked to be noticed.” Perry has pushed the envelope on her ... Read More »

Snooki on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ exit: I didn’t think I was going home yet

1 hour ago Despite turning in a judge-pleasing samba on “Dancing With the Stars” Monday, former “Jersey Shore” star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi was sent packing, but she wasn’t prepared to say goodbye to the ballroom. “I definitely didn’t think I was going to go home yet and I’m not ready to go home,” a teary Polizzi told reporters after she was voted off. “This experience has been amazing,” she said, adding that her pro partner, Sasha Farber, was also fantastic. The MTV personality couldn’t find many silver linings to her surprise exit. Asked if she’d now have time to do things such as take her son, Lorenzo, trick or treating, Polizzi sighed, “I was going ... Read More »

Britney Spears’ music used to drive away Somali pirates

Music 1 hour ago She’s sold close to 100 million albums worldwide, but it seems Britney Spears can’t count Somali pirates among her many fans. In fact, her tunes are being used to turn the tide on high-seas crimes. Merchant naval officer Rachel Owens recently spoke to Metro and revealed that a “blast of Britney” is all it takes to send the pirates packing. “Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most,” Owens said. The “Toxic” singer can take heart though — it’s nothing personal. “These guys can’t stand western culture or music, making Britney’s hits perfect,” Owens explained. “It’s so ... Read More »

‘Jimmy Kimmel’ skit sparks protest after child suggests ‘kill everyone in China’

TV 2 hours ago Jimmy Kimmel loves working with children because he never knows just what they’re going to say. Unfortunately, in a recent “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” skit, a child’s suggestion to “kill everyone in China” to settle U.S. debt has led to an uproar. The Oct. 16 “Kids Table” sketch showed a well-dressed panel of children talking about the government and how to spell “Barack Obama.” At one point, Kimmel asked the children how the U.S. should pay China back what it owes ($1.3 trillion). Little Braxton cut right to the chase. Giggling and falling over on the table, he said, “Kill everyone in China!”  Later on, when Kimmel ... Read More »
