Nikon D5300

The Nikon D5300 is an upper entry-level DSLR that improves on the D5200 by removing the optical low-pass filter (OLPF) from its 24MP CMOS sensor, and featuring true 60p HD video capability, and a slightly larger 3.2in side-articulated 1.0M-dot tilt/swivel LCD. The D5300 features a 39-point AF system, based around the same Multi-Cam 4800DX AF sensor that is used in the D7100, and the same 2016-pixel RGB metering sensor. Nikon AF-S Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G

The AF-S Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G is a premium standard lens for Nikon’s full frame SLRs, which is designed to give the best possible imaging performance even when shot at maximum aperture. Nikon says it’s highly corrected for coma, meaning that point highlights are rendered correctly right across the frame at large apertures. The lens is also specifically designed to give an attractive rendition of out-of-focus regions of the frame. It can also be used on Nikon’s DX format SLRs, on which it will behave like a classic 85mm ‘portrait’ lens. This image quality all comes with a hefty price tag, though. Sony Alpha 7

The Sony Alpha 7 is a full-frame E-mount mirrorless camera. The A7 is very similar to its more expensive sibling (the A7R), except that it uses a 24 megapixel CMOS sensor with on-chip phase detection. The A7 twins are the smallest and lightest full-frame cameras on the market. While the cameras can use any E-mount lens, there will be a crop factor involved (unless you don’t mind vignetting). Sony is producing a new line of FE-series lenses that take advantage of the larger sensor. The A7′s use the new Sony Bionz X processor, which produces images with better detail, less noise, and reduced diffraction. Other features include a 3-inch, tilting LCD, XGA OLED electronic viewfinder, Multi-interface ... Read More »
